Frequently asked questions.
IPL technology has advanced significantly and is no longer a luxury reserved for celebrities. Now, you can get 1 year of hair reduction¹ results in the comfort of your own home. The main benefits? IPL provides you with 1 year of hair reduction¹ It is also convenient and private, allowing you to perform it at your own convenience. Additionally, Braun IPL allows you to choose a sensitive mode for first-time users or when treating sensitive areas like bikini lines.
Why use IPL Hair Removal Machine at Home?
If you have dark or dark brown skin, your skin contains more melanin. Since darker skins contain more melanin which absorbs higher amounts of light energy, using IPL will cause discomfort if energy is not properly regulated. Always consult the colour and hair skin chart to see if it’s safe and effective for you to use IPL hair removal treatments. Braun’s IPLs are suitable for skin tones I to V only to ensure optimal safety and efficacy. Our IPLs use Skin Pro technology, which continuously and automatically ensures that only eligible skin tone gets treated. Usually, IPL works best on people with dark hairs and fair skin.
For women, you can use the Braun Silk·expert Pro 5 IPL in the pubic area, including mons pubis, labia majora, perineum and around the anus. You should avoid using your IPL on extra-sensitive areas such as the labia minora, vaginal opening, nipples, or anus as this could cause inflammation.
Yes, men can use IPL too! Braun’s IPL devices can be used for treatment of the back, chest, arms, underarms, and legs. IPL is not recommended for men’s facial hair, neck, and intimate areas.
Yes, our Braun IPL devices have been built with your safety in mind. With the skin contact sensors, the light beam from your IPL device will only be activated once contact with the skin is made. This means you don’t need to wear goggles or protective eyewear.

If you are unsure whether this device is safe for you to use, please consult your physician or dermatologist.
Epilators belong to the root hair removal methods. Electric tweezers on the epilator's head are used to remove unwanted hair from legs, underarms, arms, bikini area, face or other body areas. As the hair is removed directly from the follicle it provides a long-lasting smooth result.
Yes, you can use your epilator as well for your bikini line. As the area is more sensitive, Braun offers wet & dry epilators for epilating in the shower or bath, and massage roller cap for more comfort. Braun also offers epilators designed for sensitive areas with the exclusive Smart Touch, which easily let you adjust between power and gentle mode via the pressure put on your skin.
The more you get used to the sensation of epilation, the more painless it becomes. Hence, our first advice would be to epilate regularly. Further, you can make the experience more gentle by epilating in the bath tub or under the shower (if your epilator is designed for wet & dry usage), and by using Braun massage roller cap. Many women report a better experience in combination with the warmth of the water.
Whether to epilate wet or dry is completely up to you. Both options deliver the same efficient results. Many women report a better experience when epilating under the shower or in the bath tub, but in the end it comes down to personal taste. When epilating wet, please ensure that your epilator is designed for wet & dry use.
As the hair is removed from the follicle, epilation gives a smooth skin, which lasts for weeks not only days.
If you're a newbie, epilate once a week. If you're a pro, drop it down a notch and epilate once every three weeks.
Most women trying epilation for the first time find it much less painful than they expected.
If you epilate regularly, any discomfort usually reduces as the skin adjusts to the process.

To clean your Braun Epilator:
Switch off and unplug the epilator.
Remove the cap and brush it out.
Dip the brush in an antiseptic liquid (not a cream) and thoroughly brush the tweezers from the back of the epilator head. While doing so, turn the tweezers by hand.
If the epilator is washable, clean it under hot running water each time you have used it with shower gel, shaving foam or any other bathing product.
Press the release button to remove the epilation head.
Thoroughly shake the epilator and the head to make sure that any remaining water can drip out.
Leave both parts to dry completely before putting them back together.
With weekly use, we recommend replacing the brush after 12 months.
Yes!
Epilation is easier and more comfortable when the hair is 2-5mm long.
Ensure your hair is free of cream and oil.
Have a bath or shower before epilating. This makes the hair easier to remove. Make sure the skin is dry before epilating unless you are using a Silk·épil Wet & Dry model which can be used on wet skin.
Epilate slowly. It should take approximately 15 minutes to do each leg.
Move the epilator in several directions. Depending on the area you’re epilating, hair grows in different directions and you should move the epilator accordingly.
